A Guide to Getting Your Home Ready for Christmas

How to Guides | 14.11.2019

Getting_Your_Home_Ready_for_Christmas

In the words of Marjorie Holmes ‘at Christmas all roads lead to home’.

Soon your house will be bursting with family and friends for the festive season, so now is the time to start sprucing up your interiors in preparation for their arrival. To ensure you celebrate in style, we've put together a quick guide for how to get your home guest-ready this year.

The Dining Room

Eating and drinking takes centre stage over Christmas, so it's paramount that your dining room looks it's best.

If you are hosting many friends and family, a dining table large enough to make everyone feel included is key. An extending table like Amos that allows you to incorporate extra guests with its leaves yet holds an elegant and artistic form, is the perfect practical option without having to compromise on style. Being less than a metre in depth, it also allows easy conversation across the table, as well as with those seated either side.

For a smaller gathering, a round table like Faubourg will set a chic yet relaxed tone or for a more contemporary and luxe feel, opt for striking Thaddeus.

Don't forget to compliment your table with some stylish seating. Our new European-inspired designs like Saber or Xanthe will enhance a smart urban look or if you're looking for a bargain, we have several more relaxed styles in our sale, including Janice and Tasker.

The Living Room

Your living room is the heart of your home. It is the setting for many happy Christmas scenes from the opening of presents by the tree, to post-dinner conversations and games around the fire.

Creating an atmosphere of cosiness is important to establishing a warm and homely space. A sumptuous deep sectional sofa like our best-selling Truman provides the ideal place to sink into for a nap after Christmas lunch or to relax on with a good book.

Or you are looking for smaller, less significant additions, you can enhance a room enormously with a luxurious thick pile rug or some plush velvet cushions. Lighting is also an important consideration. We recommend layering lighting and using multiple light sources to make a room flexible and versatile. Use pendant or ceiling lights as your main source of light but pair with table or floor lamps for atmosphere. Find further advice on lighting your home here.

The Guest Bedroom

Often the spare room gets the least attention in a house, as it's used so sporadically throughout the rest of the year. If you have lots of time, consider re-upholstering a headboard in one of our fabrics or even putting up some new wallpaper but if you're looking for some quick fixes, a new table lamp or bed cushion will go a long way.

Try one of our new designs from the Brindisi cushion collection created in collaboration with Interior Designer, Sophie Paterson and our Otto or Linden table lamps. The combination will instantly inject new energy, and a warm glow, into the room.

Everywhere Else!

Creating that festive feeling throughout your house may suggest holly, tinsel and nativity scenes. But there's no reason why you can't put your own unique twist on Christmas decorations.

For an eye-catching interpretation of the classic Christmas bauble, choose our new metallic finish apples or cherries. The smaller sizes work brilliantly in multiples or choose one large size for your dining table centrepiece. You can also mirror the sparkle of Christmas sculptures with metallic art installations and sumptuous depictions of celebration as shown in our Flavours plexiglass artwork, a contemporary take on the Last Supper.
