What to look out for at London Design Festival

Between 16th-24th September London Design Festival will be upon us!
In its 15th year, London will be hosting a plethora of global designers, exhibiting through design fairs, installations and seminars. Here's what we're looking forward to at Andrew Martin…
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">1 - The V&A
Museum</span></h3>
<address>Cromwell Rd, Knightsbridge, London SW7 2RL<br />
16-24th September</address>
<p>We will be spending lots of time at our next-door-neighbours,
the V&A. Flynn Talbot has created an immersive light
installation called 'Reflection Room' and you'll find Ross
Lovegrove's 3-dimensional take on tapestry named 'Transmission'. We
have also been seduced by the interesting range of talks as part of
the Global Design Forum programme, in particular: Material progress
- next generation thinking, Brain Manufacturing, The Bilbao effect
2.0: the tale of two museums.</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">2 - Design
Frontiers</span></h3>
<address>Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1LA<br />
18th-24th September</address>
<address>A free exhibition of installations by 30 leading
international designers showcasing everything from product design,
digital, interiors and fashion. The idea is to challenge the
frontiers of the industry, looking towards the future of
design.</address>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">3 - The Africa
Centre</span></h3>
<address>66-68 Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1 0BL<br />
16th-23rd September</address>
<div>For the first time The Africa Centre are taking part in LDF
and have collaborated with innovative furniture designer Yinka
Ilori who is exhibiting a project called 'A large Chair doesn't
make a King'. The designer explains, "It seeks to remind you that
regardless of how successful you have been in life we all share the
common link of humanity." They will also be hosting a series of
creative workshops, film screenings and Afrobeat DJ nights.</div>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">4 - The Great
Exhibition Champagne Bar at Decorex</span></h3>
<address>Syon Park, TW8 8JF<br />
17th-20th September</address>
<p>To celebrate the 40 years' anniversary of the annual trade show
Decorex, Shalini Misra has designed an exclusive champagne bar
inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851. Taking you from age old
design feats to the modern day, catch the seminar on Designing for
the Millennial on 18th September. Also peaking our interest is
Design Sense, a project which consists of four interactive areas
exploring sight, sound, smell and touch through design.</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">5 - Villa
Walala</span></h3>
<address>Broadgate Exchange, 100 Liverpool Street, EC2M 2RH<br />
16th-24th September</address>
<p>An installation by Camille Walala which invites office workers
to explore its playful colours and shapes, instilling positivity
and creativity into a stereotypically corporate setting.</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">6 - Elements at 100%
Design</span></h3>
<address>Olympia, Hammersmith Rd, London W14 8UX<br />
20th-23rd September</address>
<p>The UK's largest trade show for architects and designers returns
to Olympia and this year the theme is 'Elements', which is brought
to life by an immersive entrance feature curated by Max Fraser.</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">7 - Drop in the
Ocean</span></h3>
<address>ME London Hotel, 336-337 Strand, WC2R 1HA<br />
14th-30th September</address>
<p>Brodie Neill uses fragments of recycled ocean plastic and
state-of-the-art video projectors to create an installation in the
atrium of the ME Hotel, which confronts the problem of the plastic
waste within our oceans and the momentous consequences one singular
act can create.</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline">8 - Silent
Arch</span></h3>
<address>Atlantic Road, Brixton, SW9 8HX<br />
16th-24th September</address>
<p>Design studio Bharat&Jean are creating a colourful pastiche
of the local railway arches to pay homage to the recent
developments in the area and the supporting role of the community.
The colours are drawn from the railway typology and their
brightness reflects the multicultural vibrancy of South London.</p>
<p>Whilst in the area, also go and find the project 'Take a Seat'
in Windrush Square, an installation of painted chairs which aims
celebrate public seating and the role it can play in creating
positive social interaction.</p>
