Our Guide to the Best of London Design Week 2020

Events | 03.03.2020

The star of every interior designers' calendar: Design Week 2020 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is just a few days away. This year the show's theme focuses on connecting, conversing and creating with 'masters of design', and the world class programme already has us feeling inspired. Read on to see our top picks of the workshops, events and conversations in design that we will be ensuring we have a front row seat for.

Conversations in Design

With so many inspirational talks to choose from, here's the top three that we'll be making our way to...
Every Room should Sing: The Secret of Intuitive Interior Design

Sunday 8th March, 11:30am-12:30pm

At Andrew Martin we are firm believers in your interiors being an extension of your personality. We advocate having fun with the pieces in your home, safe in the knowledge that if you love it, it will work. It's a theme we also see reflected in the creative interiors of Swedish designer Beata Heuman who will be sharing her approach with acting editorial director Pip McCormac in this talk hosted by Homes & Gardens.

Access All Areas: Scholar Wallpapers and the new collections at Andrew Martin

Monday 9th March, 11:30am - 12:30pm

Kick off design week in our brand new showroom by discovering the story behind our newest collections; Scholar and Casablanca. Our design director David Harris will be discussing the inspirations behind the designs and bringing them to life on our giant digital screen. David will also be giving a first exclusive introduction to a huge new and exciting project for Andrew Martin, so it's not to be missed!

Inside the Mind of Master & Maverick

Monday 9th March, 3pm - 4pm

As ambassadors of bold and daring interiors rooted in the romanticism of travel, this talk with Patrick Frey of French design house Pierre Fray really caught our eye. Hosted by the FT: How To Spend It, Patrick will be in conversation with the ever inspiring Michelle Ogundehin, to discuss where he finds his inspiration and how he comes up with such innovative and rule breaking fabric and wallpaper designs.

Workshops

Be inspired by the best in the business with the following workshops...
Planet Interiors: Making Informed choices

Friday 13th March - 12:30pm

With our climate rapidly changing and populations feeling the effects all over the globe it's never been more important to consider the negative effects our industry is having on the environment, and how we can begin to combat them. The Design Centre's personal shopper Gabrielle Grubanovich will be discussing sustainability with designers Staffan TollgÄrd, Peter Page of Tim Page Carpets and Rodell Markham of Altfield, and how we can make a difference to the future of our planet through our interiors.

Paying Homage to Heritage: Period Design's Bright Future

Tuesday 10th March, 10:30am

Although constantly looking to push the boundaries of interior design, we will always have one eye looking back to the styles and trends of times gone by to inform our new collections. Which is why this workshop with Edward Bulmer, Geoff Collier of Collier Webb and Shona Stopford-Sackville of McKinney & Co is high on our list of must-see activities as they discuss how traditional techniques inspire interior design today.

Balancing Colour & Texture in Interior Design

Friday 13th March, 2:30pm

The mixing of colour, pattern and texture is an integral part of our approach to design, and our collections don't shy away from bold patterns or vibrant colours. But if you struggle to find the confidence to incorporate these elements into your home, expert advice from Interior Designer, Evey Dunbavin-Hands will arm you with all the tips and tricks you need.

Personalisation & Maximalist design with Victoria & Albert Baths

Tuesday 10th March, 11:30

Although always a trend at Andrew Martin, personalisation and maximalist design is taking on new influence as we move further into 2020. We are excited to hear renowned interior design journalist Kate Watson-Smyth discussing how this age of bold and brave design is opening up new possibilities.
