The International Interior Designer of the Year Awards 2019

Events | 22.05.2019

The crowning jewel of the design calendar, the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award is fast approaching. Each year an exclusive cohort of astonishing designers are shortlisted, with one exceptional talent singled out as the Interior Designer of the Year. Previous winners are a roll call of the world's most influential designers, with Kelly Hoppen, Kit Kemp, Rose Uniacke, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard and Axel Vervoordt amongst them.

On the celebrity judging panel this year, is Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer for Land Rover, and Olympic Gold Medallist, Lord Sebastian Coe. Read on to find out more about the Judges, explore some of the top design talent from the entries this year, and when this year's winner of the award will be announced.

Gerry McGovern

Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer for Land Rover, is a strong advocate of design's intrinsic relationship to business, and more specifically its necessity to brand equity.

A member of the Land Rover board of Management, McGovern has led the company to higher standards of design, consolidating its credentials with the launch of the LRX concept, including the Range Stormer and the Range Rover Evoque, the smallest, lightest and most efficient Range Rover ever. McGovern has degrees in Industrial Design and Automotive Design from Coventry University and the Royal College of Art respectively.

McGovern's passion for design reaches much further than the automotive industry; he is an authority on modern architecture and furniture as well as a collector of contemporary art. In October 2014 he was announced as a Visiting Professor at the prestigious Royal College of Art in London, demonstrating his commitment to design education.

Lord Sebastian Coe

Lord Coe is the President of the International Association of Athletics Federations and the Executive Chairman of CSM Sport & Entertainment. As an athlete, he won Olympic Gold Medals in the 1500 metres (1980, 1984) and set 12 middle-distance world records.

Lord Coe's global perspective on business and design is informed by his work with The Royal Institute of British Architects and his degree in Economics and Social History from Loughborough University where he is now Chancellor.

Coe, who is married and has four children, has received numerous honours throughout his career. He was the BBC's sports personality of the year in 1979 and in 1982 he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Eight years later he was promoted to Officer of the same order (OBE). Following his appointment as a life peer, Coe was promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for his services to sport and in the 2013 New Year's Honours List he was appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH)
