Kayan, influenced by the ancient handwoven silks from Central Burma, breathes the casual, decorative style of the East with stripes in indigo and white. Scattered amongst the rice plains of Bagan there remains 2,000 Buddhist temples from 11th and 12th century, each adorned with unique, geometric designs which we have translated to block patterns for the Maurishka Collection. The Asian motifs in Maurishka show a mixture of linear geometry and soft curls, reminiscent of these iconic temples which sit amongst the billows of terracotta dust, breaking the flat landscape by pointing to the sky like long, bejewelled fingers.
