Alexis works from her studio in Yorkshire, using lino to create her shadowy images and occasionally adding colour with gouache or watercolour paint. The effect is one of graphic lines which retain an organic hand-crafted feel. You may recognise her distinct images from her much loved childrens book The Bear in the Stars but she has also worked with Penguin Random House, Macmillian Children's Books, Lonely Planet, Stranger and Stranger and the V&A.
Each of these seven designs features an intricate illustration, with ideas sparked from sources as varied as her sons dreams to her favourite songs or a William Blake poem. The clean shapes are reminiscent of the vintage matchboxes, record sleeves, tea boxes and postcards which Alexis looks to for inspiration. For the colour palette we chose a selection of bright contrasting shades like hot pink, midnight blue and zingy orange alongside classic neutral greys and soft taupe. In an assortment of rectangle and square shapes each piece has been finished off with complimentary velvet piping to frame the image.
